This Whitby restaurant, which specialises in seafood, has received a great deal of acclaim for its fine cuisine. Situated in a Victorian country house and surrounded by over 3 acres of landscaped gardens, Dunsley Hall is bedecked in period-style furnishings such as wood paneled walls and open fireplaces. The award-winning menu features fresh fish caught off the Whitby coast - highlights include Whitby crab, scallops and crayfish tails. Despite the formal surroundings, food is served in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Owner of two AA rosettes, the Estbek is one of the finest Whitby restaurants. Situated on the Sandsend sea-front the restaurant has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and now includes a modern upstairs section that features high leather-back chairs and large walled mirrors. It has a daily-changing, a la carte menu which utilises the best local ingredients - popular dishes include pan seared scallops, kipper pate and griddled prawns. Diners may also enjoy their extensive wine list which caters for a variety of tastes, yet remains affordable thanks to a reduced mark up. The restaurant also includes a cobble-stone exterior which is ideal for summer dining.

Another leading restaurant in Whitby here. This award-winning eatery is situated close to the swing bridge and specialises in seafood as well as local meats and produce. The menu includes delights such as carved sirloin of char-grilled Yorkshire beef and Whitby halibut. Great care is taken in the preparation and presentation of each dish and the service is welcoming and friendly. There's a 'catch of the day' menu and a Sunday roast menu, both of which prove popular with locals and visitors alike.

The Magpie Cafe is a hugely popular fish and chips restaurant and has been in operation since the 1930s. It overlooks the harbour and affords fine views of Whitby. They offer a large menu, which features a diverse range of dishes, from deep fried coujouns of cod to traditional Whitby fish and chips, deep fried in crispy batter. Children, vegetarians and the weight conscious are also accommodated with their own selection of carefully chosen dishes. There's also a good wine list which includes the restaurant's own label. Because of the popularity of the Magpie, it's worth booking well in advance. As you'd expect, all fish is fresh and locally caught.

Another popular Whitby fish restaurant here which, as the name suggests, is located on the quay. This multiple award-winning establishment which is family-run specialises in traditional fish and chips and has been in service since 1999. The restaurant, which is air-conditioned, can accommodate up to 80 people and is housed in one of the town's oldest buildings - it was researched by Bram Stoker while writing his famous work, Dracula. Children are catered for with changing facilities and high chairs, as are the disabled with braille/large print menus and nearby parking bays. A takeaway service is also available if seats are hard to come by.

This Whitby restaurant and hotel dates back to the 17th century and specialises in traditional European food. There are three very individual dining areas, from which to enjoy food sourced from local suppliers. The menu is large and varied - highlights include fresh Whitby cod in beer batter and slow cooked belly pork. There's also a popular Sunday lunch that features traditional English roast dinners such as beef sirloin, served with fresh vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Although the restaurant is rather large with a seating plan pushing 80, the individual dining areas help to create an intimate and relaxing ambience.

This establishment is renowned for serving quality Whitby fish and chips. Located on New Quay Road, Trenchers prides itself in serving traditional fish and chips all day; for lunch, tea and dinner. They also manage to incorporate seafood into a variety of dishes including casseroles, salads and pies. The restaurant's interior is functional and unpretentious which helps to create a relaxing atmosphere in which diners can enjoy their food. Both children and vegetarians are catered for with separate menus. Visitors may also enjoy their large wine list which features a good selection of whites and reds from Spain, Chile, Australia and Argentina.
