Owner of two AA rosettes, the Estbek is one of the finest Whitby restaurants. Situated on the Sandsend sea-front the restaurant has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and now includes a modern upstairs section that features high leather-back chairs and large walled mirrors. large menu, which features a diverse range of dishes, from deep fried coujouns of cod to traditional Whitby fish and chips, deep fried in crispy batter. Children, vegetarians and the weight conscious are also accommodated with their own selection of carefully chosen dishes. There's also a good wine list which includes the restaurant's own label. Because of the popularity of the Magpie, it's worth booking well in advance. As you'd expect, all fish is fresh and locally caught.

Another popular Whitby fish restaurant here which, as the name suggests, is located on the quay. This multiple award-winning establishment which is family-run specialises in
traditional fish and chips and has been in service since 1999. The restaurant, which is air-conditioned, can accommodate up to 80 people and is housed in one of the town's oldest buildings - it was researched by Bram Stoker while writing his famous work, Dracula. Children are catered for with changing facilities and high chairs, as are the disabled with braille/large print menus and nearby parking bays. A takeaway service is also available if seats are hard to come by.
